Workplace Wellbeing & Responsibility
My work on workplace wellbeing begins with a simple premise: wellbeing is not something that resides solely within individuals. It is shaped through relationships, working practices, organisational structures and the material conditions in which people are asked to work.
This approach developed through my book Workplace Wellbeing: A Relational Approach and has informed consultancy and reflective-practice work with organisations and professionals working in demanding environments, including work connected with the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse and the UK COVID-19 Inquiry.
A particular strand of this work concerns responsibility. Professionals and leaders are often held responsible for situations they cannot fully control. Rather than reducing this either to personal blame or to the question of what an individual can influence, I work with people and teams to explore how responsibility, agency and constraint are distributed across relationships, roles and organisational systems.
I offer facilitated reflective spaces, workshops, talks and bespoke consultancy for organisations seeking to think differently about workplace wellbeing, responsibility and the conditions in which people are expected to work.
